12345…67 Pork Ribs

My friend, who is a busy working mom, with a family of 5 working adults, will cook 3-4 dish meals for dinner daily.

She shared with me this recipe – 12345 Pork Ribs that she learnt on TV. It is apparently a Taiwanese recipe. I tried it and indeed it was simple to do. Braising the ribs didn’t take too long, just under an hour.

Go to YouTube and you will find a slew of 12345 pork rib recipes. Some with additional aromatics like ginger, garlic, etc

12345 pork ribs, I added dried chilies for a little heat and a spicy zing.

This is her recipe :

Ingredients

*1/2 kg pork ribs

*1 tbsp Chinese wine

*2 tbsp Sugar

*3 tbsp Black Vinegar

*4 tbsp Light Sauce

*5 tbsp Water

My 12345…67 Pork Ribs recipe – since my son is not to crazy about sour food, I tweaked the measurements of the ingredients to suit my son’s palate. I changed the cooking method by popping the ribs in the oven. We like it!

Ingredients

*1/2 kg pork ribs

*1 tbsp Black Vinegar

*2 tbsp Chinese Wine

*3 tbsp Sugar

*4 tbsp Light Sauce

*5 tbsp Water

Oil and honey

6 tabsp water

7 cloves whole garlic

Method

1. Marinate ribs in 12345 seasoning. Leave in fridge for about a day or 2.

2. Heat a pot and pour out ribs and marinade, bring to boil and ribs are beginning to cook, turn off fire.

3. In a larger lined baking pan, arrange ribs (without liquid) and garlic cloves in the pan. Drizzle oil on the ribs, tent or cover with aluminum foil.

4. Set oven to 200 C and put ribs and put in oven to bake for 45 min. Remove tent and at 6 tabsp water and allow ribs to cook for another 30-45 mins to cook till tender.

5. Remove ribs from oven, drizzle a bit of honey and return to the oven set on grill. Brown ribs for 10-15 min till golden and slightly charred.

6. Let ribs rest for 10 mins before serving.

How easy is that!
